Darkside: A style that deals with the darker, more evil side of art. This style usually is created in greyscale. It is usually full of texture and writhing imagery. Very dark in appearance and content. Paul Booth is well known for his darkside tattoos. In a more modern times artists such as Paul Acker have been bringing color to the pallette a little more often than not.
Topics of choice are usually:

Demons-yes those friendly little horned ppl. Usually engaged in some horrid act of violence or evil. Incubus are the male versions that look fairly human and Succubus are the female. Both Succubi and Incubi are considered sexual in nature. From there you have your chomping, ripping, destroying, all out bad ass demons. These represent the dark side of ourselves and either the perpetuation of that side or the control of it.

Grim Reapers- Not your run of the mill reaper mind you, terrifying rip your heart out reapers will only do. To control or own death in your skin is considered by some a means of cheating it. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer! hehe

Skulls- Here once again we are not referring to cheesy happy skulls. These are the scum of the lot. They need to be ugly and rotten with maybe some flesh, puss or whatever else you feel is necessary to give them the OMG edge.

Zombies-Dead and dying humanoids, rotten, beaten, and usually half eaten. These wonderfully diverse little monsters can be done a hundred and one different ways. Almost all of which can be quite entertaining.

Depth: ------------------------------------------------------------

Describes how 3 dimensional an object looks. A design with low depth looks flat whereas a design with good depth looks as if it were real i.e. is well shaded. Not all designs require this but for some it is a must.

Dragons:----------------------------------------------------------

The topic of dragons is enormous (Sorry, couldn't help it.). There are so many myths dealing with them and our interaction with them. Both the Asian and European continents run rampant with many stories of giant reptiles destroying and protecting mankind. Sometimes this was because of our actions, their temperament, both, or neither.

No matter why the dragons did what they did in ancient lore there is no doubt that they represent great power. A power far larger than us and a power that we respect, even if we fear it. So in short, before I ramble for hours, a dragon can represent a great protector, a horrifying adversary, or just a look back to an older time of myth and legend.

Drop Shading:----------------------------------------------

A shadowing effect that makes the topic of the tattoo appear to be raised up from the skin.
