Lettering: -------------------------------------------------------
Now lettering has been quite popular in tattooing for many years now. Sometimes people don't really want to take the time to represent an idea symbolically or it is a topic where the word or name says more without a picture. You can always do something in a font that has a feel to it like the meaning that you are trying to portray with the word. Lettering doesn't have to be plain and boring. Filigree or other decorative flourish can be added to make it more interesting. Letters can be made to look bloody or as if they are carved into the skin. They can be given shadows to lift them up or chiseled into stone. There are really a lot of interesting things that can be done to make a lettering tattoo have some pop, unless you're a minimalist, and then good ol' fashion times roman or typewriter font may be right up your alley.

Light source-----------------------------------------------
A sometimes imaginary source of light. When coloring/shading think about where the light is coming from and how it would shine on the objects. This will aid in more realistic pictures.

Linework:--------------------------------------------------
All of the lines in a tattoo. The framework for the color and or shading. Many tattooists are moving away from this tradition and using linework less and less. It still has its place though and definitely won't be going away any time soon.

Logos:-------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes you just love a brand or what a logo represents so much that you just have to have it in your skin forever. Many drinkers will get their favorite beer or other alcohol tattooed on them. Sometimes a brand is owned by an amazing athlete or it is just plain funny to have it done. In rare instances people have been paid to get a tattoo of a logo. So many companies, so little time.
